The Teatro Massimo in Palermo is on the podium of the most important theaters in the world
The ranking, drawn up on a sample of 100,000 voting users from the international Travel 365 platform, on a selection of 50 theaters around the world, sees the Teatro Massimo in Palermo in third place among the most beautiful and important theaters after the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan.
“Knowing that the Teatro Massimo is on the podium of the most beautiful and famous theaters in the world gives us great pride. Yet another recognition of a place that is the symbol of culture for the city of Palermo – an internationally recognized symbol. All this demonstrates how far-sighted the choice of this administration was to have focused on the relaunch of the Teatro Massimo since its inauguration and the results of the last two years are clear proof of this”, states the Mayor of Palermo and President of the Teatro Massimo Foundation Roberto Lagalla.
“We are happy with this recognition. It encourages us to maintain a high level of cultural programming of the Theatre and to keep up our work on making the theatre accessible to the wider audience, both as a monument of unparalleled artistic and monumental value, and as an institution and place of art and culture which with all its workers represents the Italian cultural identity in all its richness and beauty in the world” – adds the Superintendent and artistic director Marco Betta.
Inaugurated at the end of the nineteenth century and immediately a protagonist of the cultural life of the city, the Teatro Massimo is one of the most visited monuments in Palermo. In 2023 it reached the all-time record of over 200,000 visitors. Open 365 days a year, today it is the first cultural factory in Sicily with its Orchestra, Chorus, Ballet, youth groups and stagecraft workshops. It hosts the greatest artists on the international scene with a thorough programme of operas, ballets and concerts.
