We are getting ready to host one of the most eagerly awaited events of the artistic season with the premiere of Caravaggio, a contemporary ballet in two acts by choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti. The production celebrates the visual power and inner drama of one of the most revolutionary painters in the history of art and marks the eagerly awaited return to the Massimo of étoile Roberto Bolle following his last appearance in 2007.

The show traces the key stages of Michelangelo Merisi’s artistic and personal life, exploring the fine line between art and damnation.

Roberto Bolle, who has cherished and shaped this choreography through his own creativity, turning it into a major international success, will take on the role of the cursed painter on 20, 21, 23 and 24 June.
At his side, in the role of Luce, will be the dancer Maria Khoreva, soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, who will dance as the étoile’s partner alongside the Teatro Massimo Ballet, directed by Jean-Sébastien Colau.

In the subsequent performances on June 25 and 26, the role of Caravaggio will be played by the talented Alessandro Casà, with Martina Pasinotti in the role of Luce; both are members of the Teatro Massimo Ballet company.

Tickets for the performances scheduled from 20 to 26 June are available at the Teatro Massimo box office and online.
