Palermo apre le porte. La scuola adotta un monumento” (Palermo opens its doors. The school adopts a monument) was born in the spring of 1994, based an idea of the then School Councillor of the Municipality of Palermo Alessandra Siragusa.
The project, now in its 30th year, is today known as “Panormus. Schools Adopt the City” and represents a significant milestone in an educational journey that schools have been pursuing for years. The initiative was launched with the aim of promoting a concept of ‘lawfulness’ that goes beyond a mere understanding of rules and values, seeking instead to provide tools capable of evoking deep emotions and encouraging appropriate and responsible behaviour.
The project addresses the need for concrete action at a local level, raising awareness among the younger generation of issues relating to active citizenship, and the protection and enhancement of our historical, cultural, artistic and landscape heritage.

The aim of this year’s event is to encourage students to develop a deep sense of belonging and active citizenship, whilst promoting the city’s heritage.
Through creative activities and the symbolic adoption of specific spaces, the initiative seeks to strengthen the bond between schools and the community, raising young people’s awareness of the need to protect the common good and uphold the values of the rule of law.
The central theme will be “The City I Would Like to See”, and it will offer creative activities through which students can give voice to their aspirations.
